Coronary Stenting

A coronary stenting procedure, also known as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary angioplasty with stent placement, is a revascularization procedure that widens and opens narrowed or blocked arteries in the heart: A small sheath, plastic tube, or catheter is placed in the groin, wrist, or upper leg artery. A guide wire is moved into and across the blockage. A balloon catheter with an uninflated balloon on the tip is pushed over the guide wire and into the blockage. The balloon inflates, widening the artery and moving plaque out of the way. The balloon is deflated and removed. A small, metal mesh tube called a stent is placed at the narrowed part of the artery to keep it open. This procedure can be scheduled for patients for angina and positive stress tests. As well as emergency heart attack patients. Dr Shareghi has successfully performed thousands of these procedures. And is highly skilled and has current Board certification.
